If using Debian testing or unstable:

* `sudo apt-get install git-annex`

If using Debian 6.0 stable:

* Follow the instructions to [enable backports](http://backports.debian.org/Instructions/).
* `sudo apt-get -t squeeze-backports install git-annex`
