### Please describe the problem.

`git-annex log` fails to run if git is an older version.

### What steps will reproduce the problem?

`git-annex log` :)

i somewhat thought that this would work even if i had an older version of git because the standalone release would use the bundled git release...

### What version of git-annex are you using? On what operating system?

5.20150610+gitg608172f-1~ndall+1 on Debian Wheezy.
