If I say, "Bill alleges that I stole his hat," I am saying two things:
- Bill says I stole his hat.
- I say I didn't do it.
To allege something is to assert without proving it.
Such an assertion is called allegation
"빌은 내가 자기 모자를 훔쳤다고 주장한다." 는 말은
다음 두 가지 사실을 말하고 있는 것이다.
- 빌은 내가 그의 모자를 훔쳤다고 말한다.
- 나는 훔치지 않았다고 말한다.
allege 는 증명되지 않은 사실을 주장하는 것이다.
그 같은 주장을 allegation 이라 한다.

The adjective is alleged. If the police accuse someone of having committed a crime,
newspapers will usually refer to that person as an alleged criminal.
The police have alleged that he or she committed the crime,
but a jury hasn't made a decision yet.
형용사는 alleged. 경찰이 누군가에게 범죄를 저질렀다는 혐의를 둔다면,
언론은 일반적으로 그 사람을 혐의자라고 부를 것이다.
경찰은 그 사람이 범행을 저질렀다고 주장했지만
배심원은 아직 결론을 내리지 않은 것이다.
