This is what happened when I tried to compile Elab.lhs 
from http://www.dur.ac.uk/CARG/epigram/.

Looks like this is going to be a tricky one to reproduce. 
It doesn't happen for me, just downloading current.tgz. 
First step is to make sure we're using the same sources:
please send me the tarball you're building.

What platform/OS are you on?  How did you install GHC?

Submitter hasn't responded with any new information, so I'm
assuming this was another instance of the 6.2.1 GC bug.
