git annex cannot get me my file contents from my remotes

### What steps will reproduce the problem?

```
git clone myserver:/path/to/repo
cd repo
git annex get
```

### What version of git-annex are you using? On what operating system?
Using git-annex-5.20150327 on gentoo linux

### Please provide any additional information below.

The error messages I get egenrally look like:
